As we all know polyester is a man-made fiber with endless possibilities. It is used in places, which have a moderately heavy-duty usage to it. Where on the other hand cotton being a natural fiber is more skin-friendly and is moisture absorbing.
Here are some pointers that why one should prefer using polyester-based garments for training and gym purposes.
1. Polyester is made for heavy-duty things.
This means that the wear and tear of a similar used cotton-based garment will be much more than that of the polyester-based one. Why is that? Cotton yam has a low tolerance for abrasion. The more it comes into contact with force and moderate heat it starts deteriorating. On the other hand, polyester is good is handling heat and applied forces to it.
2. Water Weight holding capacity.
If we take an equal amount of polyester and cotton fabric and dip in the water, the weight of the cotton-based fabric will be more than that of polyester. This is due to the moisture-absorbing properties of cotton. Polyester yarn does not hold water hence the fabric will feel light on your body and will give you more freedom of weightlessness.
3. Moisture-wicking Properties of Polyester.
This means that the polyester-based fabric will keep your body temperature cooler as compared to cotton-based fabric. This is caused due to the evaporation effect. When the body evaporates it cools itself down by releasing heat. The polyester fabric keeps away the moisture from your skin and hence does not absorb it. This keeps you nice and cool.
4.Heat is a factor.
Polyester fabric is either used in the extremes of the temperatures. In winters it will keep you warm by trapping body heat and on the contrary in extremely hot climates will keep you cool by allowing heat to move away by evaporation from your body. Cotton is worn in a moderate climate where is neither hot nor cold.
5. Skin-friendly is cotton.
We should not deny the fact that cotton is the most skin-friendly amongst the two. It does not start any irritation like polyester fabrics can do on some skin types. Since being man-made our bodies are still trying to adapt to the yarn. But nowadays, polyester fabrics are made with cotton feel to it to reduce this issue.
Again it all depends on which activity you are an option for and choose your garments accordingly.
